The Ear Catchy Pump Up Kicks

Recently, which is 8 months ago, i just downloaded few songs and some of them are pretty interesting. one of the song from Foster the People, an American indie band, which titled Pumped Up Kicks really caught my attention. i’m not gonna talk about the musicallity since i’m not mastered in it. beside i’m totally blind about that subject.despite it’s ear catching and fun type of music, it’s lyrics will give us something to think about. the first time i heard it, i don’t really understand what it said but then my curiosity take over me. i went to google to figure it out and it surprised me. here’s the lyrics of the song:

“Pumped Up Kicks”

Robert’s got a quick hand.
He’ll look around the room, he won’t tell you his plan.
He’s got a rolled cigarette, hanging out his mouth, he’s a cowboy kid.
Yeah, he found a six shooter gun.
In his dad’s closet hidden with a box of fun things, and I don’t even know what.
But he’s coming for you, yeah he’s coming for you.

[Chorus: x2]
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks you better run, better run, outrun my gun.
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks you better run, better run, faster than my bullet.

Daddy works a long day.
He’ll be coming home late, he’s coming home late.
And he’s bringing me a surprise.
‘Cause dinner’s in the kitchen and it’s packed in ice.
I’ve waited for a long time.
Yeah the sleight of my hand is now a quick-pull trigger,
I reason with my cigarette,
And say, “Your hair’s on fire, you must have lost your wits, yeah.”

[Chorus: x2]
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks you better run, better run, outrun my gun.
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks you better run, better run, faster than my bullet.

[Whistling]

[Chorus: x4]
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks you better run, better run, outrun my gun.
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks you better run, better run, faster than my bullet.

See, the lyrics is so catchy and the beat, it’s good to listen to. the fact that it delivers message about the terrible shooting tragedy in public school in US made this song very popular the time it released and played on radios. out of curiosity, i began searching for reviews on this song. it surely made a controversy regarding the lyrics that considered to be vulgar. it mention gun and the other word which i forgot and it ended up being censored.

from my point, it’s a good song anyway. 8/10
